About

Whistle and Trick is a kid’s band based in Naarm (Melbourne) that is made up of childhood friends Esther and Maddy, who are always ready to sing, dance, and cause a bit of mischief. Having shared the stage back in their goody-goody, high school choir days, this dynamic duo have now reunited and joined forces to bring their newest love of children’s music to life.

Esther and Maddy both come from abundant musical backgrounds, brought up in families of singer songwriters, music teachers and professional orchestral musicians. Growing up in such musical environments fuelled their interest in music, and between them they have performed in many bands all over the world.

All the while, they could never shake their love for working with children, resulting in both Maddy and Esther taking up careers in music education. With Esther then having her own child, and Maddy working in early childhood, they soon found themselves constantly making up fun little songs for kids and having a blast doing it. Finally they realised that with their knowledge of children’s education and their natural musicianship, it seemed only fitting to bring these skillsets together and thus, Whistle and Trick was born.

As big kids themselves, they love to explore all the wonderful wacky things in life, through a variety of musical styles and instrumentation. Inspired by the thoughtfulness and live instrumentation of the Teeny Tiny Stevies, and the story telling of Dan Sultan’s album “Nali and Friends”, Whistle and Trick bring a sense of play and imagination into their music, along with some of their very own zany characters to join them along the way.

As Whistle and Trick hop, skip and jump their way into the world of children’s entertainment, they hope to keep creating music that is fun and lively, so the whole family can have a boogie at the breakfast table, or have a big car singalong on that family roadtrip.

They have created music that is clever and thoughtful, so children don’t feel like they are being spoken down to, and can instead learn about their world and have their imagination take flight. Lastly, it’s music that feels safe and warm, so that parents can rely on it to help settle their little ones in times of need.

They have hit the ground running with this project, with their debut album ‘Bananas and Other Delicious Things’ launching them onto the scene, gaining them a 2023 Aria Nomination against children’s music heavy weights The Wiggles, Emma Memma, Peter Combe and Play School. Their 12 music video clips from said debut album hit the screens, being playing on ABC Kids TV and iView from March 2024.

Whistle and Trick are so excited to share the inner workings of their wild musical brains, with a bit of sparkle and cheekiness thrown in.
